The possible role of nucleic acid methylases in the induction of cancer.
نویسنده
چکیده
The possible importance of tRNA methylases in carcinogenesis was suggested by Srinivasan and Borek (48, 49). This hypothesis has stimulated a considerable amount of subsequent work and is currently under investigation in several laboratories. The hypothesis was based originally on the observation by Bergquist and Mathews (3) that some tumors contained higher levels of methylated RNA than their corresponding normal tissues and on the reports by Farber and Magee (14, 31) that the potent hepatic carcinogens ethionine (13) and dimethylnitrosamine (29) methylated the RNA of the liver after administration to rats. Thus Borek (4) stated, "If, as it seems likely, these imposed alkylations by chemical

Apoptosis induction in acute promyelocytic leukemia cells through upregulation of CEBPα by miR-182 blockage
MicroRNAs (miRNAs) involved in regulation of the genes. The CCAAT/enhancer-binding protein-α (CEBPα) is a crucial transcription factor for normal hematopoiesis and cell cycle that frequently disrupted in human acute myeloid leukemia (AML). The miR-182 up-regulation in several malignant diseases such as AML was reported, in the other hand bioinformatics analysis revealed CEBPα targeted by miR-18...
متن کاملModulation of radiation induced changes in nucleic acid content of liver of Swiss albino mouse by Tinospora cordifolia (Miers)
Background: Radiotherapy is the main modality of cancer treatment. There are many chemical radioprotectors which unfortunately have lethal or toxic effect. Therefore the search is on to find out natural plant based radioprotectors. A well known medicinal plant, which is more acceptable to the body, Tinospora cordifolia, was tested in animal tissues against gamma radiations. Radioprotectiv...

Background: Non-viral Nano carriers such as liposomes and cationic polymers based on engineered properties are regarded in gene delivery field. Although these carriers do not have weaknesses of viral vectors, but they are less efficient than viruses and they still need to be improved as favorable gene delivery carriers. Amongst non-viral carriers, cationic liposomes have been proposed for clini...
متن کاملInduction of Nucleic Acid Damage in Viral Genomes using Riboflavin in Combination with UV Light
Background and Aims: Despite the screening of blood donors, blood transfusion represents an ideal port of entry for blood-borne infection. Blood-borne pathogen transmission has been a concern since the earliest days of transfusion. The blood product of platelet (PLT) concentrates is still faced with the risk of bacterial and viral contaminations. Pathogen inactivation technologies offer a proac...
متن کاملThe Role of Cyclooxygenase-2 in Signaling Pathways Promoting Colorectal Cancer
Colorectal cancer is one of the most common cancers in the world. Various factors are involved in the development and progression of this disease. One of these agents is cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2). COX-2 is a product of the PTGS2 gene and converts free arachidonic acid to prostaglandins. COX-2 is not naturally expressed in most normal cells. Noticeably, the increased expression of COX-2 has been ...
